York Christmas Market is open six days a week and closed for a rest day each Tuesday.
But York never stops sparkling.
From magical attractions and cosy cafés to independent shops, historic streets, museums, restaurants and winter walks, there is plenty to enjoy every day of the week.
Read on to plan your festive visit, explore more of York and make the most of the York Christmas Market and Christmas across the whole city.

The market is open from 10.30am – 7pm Wednesday - Monday with Tuesday a well deserved rest day for the stall holders.
Alpine chalets will line Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square, showcasing local crafts, artisan products, unique gifts and delicious seasonal treats.
With more than 80% of traders coming from Yorkshire, the Market is a wonderful opportunity to support local Yorkshire businesses, discover the best of the region and find something unique.
As the stalls are announced we'll be sharing our favourites right here.

York Minster at Christmas
York Minster welcomes the festive season with worship, music and family events. Highlights include Bach’s Sleepers, Wake at Evensong, the Advent Procession, and the Christmas Tree Festival, featuring decorated trees throughout the Minster. December brings Christmas carol concerts, The Nutcracker, Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Sankta Lucia, candlelit Christmas hits and Carols by Candlelight.
Thor's On Ice
Just a 5 minute walk from the hotel - a new covered outdoor ice rink launches this Winter in the heart of York's historic Museum Gardens. Rosy cheeks, woodsmoke and wafts of cinnamon - that first-lap grin nobody can fake. Skate under the stars, come rain or shine, protected by a clear covering then thaw out post-skate with a spiced hot drink on the Alpine Terrace.
Pantomimes
Choose from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at York Theatre or The Further Adventures of Peter Pan: The Return of Captain Hook? at The Grand Opera House.

Why Stay at No. 1 York?
Choose No.1 York for your Christmas market stay, just a ten minute stroll from the market along Bootham, under the raised city walls and past the historic Minster (most definitely worth a visit during your stay).
No. 1 brings a warm, individual take on a city break: thoughtful comfort, playful character and a sense of place, rather than a stay that could be anywhere. The feeling is considered but never stiff, with the kind of personal welcome from our team that helps you feel right at home.
After festive exploring, retreat to a hideaway shaped by the city’s culture and character and enjoy a little indulgence - perhaps a cocktail by the fire in the Rhubarb Bar, supper in Pearly Cow or a nightcap in the Marmalade Lounge.
For a Christmas Market visit No.1 York makes the stay part of the story.
