This four-day festival at York Race Course stages three Group 1 races as well as the prestigious Ebor Handicap on Saturday, 22nd August that lends its name to the meeting.
It’s held at one of Britain’s finest tracks, on land known for more than 1,500 years as the Knavesmire. It was where notorious highwayman Dick Turpin was hung in 1739 for horse theft. Thankfully in 2026 the horses on show are of the highest quality. The Ebor Meeting dates back to 1843 and is now one of the most important and enjoyable fixtures in the Flat Racing calendar.
Sporting excellence combined with fashion and fun over four fabulous days and No. 1 York offers the perfect base for the festival.
The Group 1 Juddmonte International is the highlight of the opening day and the richest race of the York calendar. Ranked as The Longines World's Best Horse Race in 2024 by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities it is one of the biggest races of the summer. Previous winners include such greats as Frankel, Sea The Stars and, last season, Baaeed. This year’s race is shaping up to be a superb contest. Ombudsman, Delacroix and Danon Decile could all be among the potential runners this year.
Thursday is Ladies Day at the Ebor Festival, the social highlight. Dress to impress for some fabulous prizes on the Ebor Fashion Lawn.
The spotlight turns to the fillies and mares in the prestigious Group 1 Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks, one of the standout races of the Ebor Festival. Renowned for attracting some of the finest middle-distance performers in Europe, the race has a rich history of producing champions who go on to shine on the international stage. With another high-class field expected to line up on the Knavesmire in 2026, racegoers can look forward to a thrilling contest featuring some of the season's most talented fillies battling for one of the Festival's most coveted prizes."
The excitement reaches a fever pitch with the fastest race of the week: the Group 1 Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes. Renowned as the highest-rated 1,000m sprint on the global stage, this is where the world’s elite speedsters descend upon York to test the limits of pure pace. It’s a race defined by history-making moments including the blistering course record of under 57 seconds set in 2019, and 2026 promises to be just as electric. Following the brilliant victories of recent years, we look forward to seeing the next generation of sprinting stars fly past the stands in a heart-stopping dash for the season's ultimate five-furlong prize.
Saturday is the highlight of the festival. Since 1843, the oldest and most famous race, the Ebor, has generated much excitement and many tales. The richest flat handicap in Europe, there is always a buzz. Joined this year by the upgraded Sky Bet City of York Stakes, which becomes the fourth Group One (think Champion's League) race of the festival.
