I like my bedroom nice and cool; do you have aircon in the rooms?
Yes, we have several rooms that have air conditioning. Just mention this when you book your room and we’ll make sure, where possible, to allocate you to a room that has air conditioning.
I want to come and stay with the whole family; do you offer spare cots or beds for children?
Yes our Large Guest rooms and Bootham Suites can accommodate an extra bed, whilst our Clifton Suite has a double sofa bed. Most of our rooms can also accommodate a cot. We also have a selection of interconnecting bedrooms which are perfect for families. Just let us know what you need upon booking, and we will do our best to accommodate based on availability.
How much do you charge for children to stay?
Children aged 0-3 stay for free
Children aged 4-11 are charged at £25 per night including breakfast
Children aged 12-16 are charged at £35 per night including breakfast
An extra bed for anyone over 17 is charged at £50 per night
How do I make sure I book a bedroom with a bath?
A selection of our bedrooms have baths so please make sure to request one when you make a reservation and we will do all we can to allocate you a room with a bath. If you require a walk-in shower please let the team know.
What in room amenities do you have?
All of our rooms have Nespresso coffee machines, kettles (with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and water), irons and ironing boards, a Crosley vinyl record player, a Roberts radio and TV with Chromecast.
What time is check in/check out?
Check-in is 3.00pm and Check-out is 11am (or 12pm if you're a GuestBest member)
Can you store my luggage?
We most certainly can! We can store luggage if you arrive early for your room, and we can store it if you want to go and explore the city on departure day too.
Do you allow Dogs in the hotel? And what are the rules?
We’re a dog-loving family so you are more than welcome to bring your four-legged friend along . We charge £25 per night per dog. We allow dogs in all rooms (except our Small Guest Rooms as they just don’t have the tail-wagging space). We don’t allow dogs in the restaurant, but you can dine in The Bar or Marmalade Lounge with your four-legged-friend.
How far is the walk to town?
All our hotels are situated close to the centre of town. Its just under a 10-minute walk to The York Minster, The City Walls and the centre of town.
How far is the hotel from the train station?
We’re just a scenic 10-minute, River-Ouse-crossing jaunt from York train station. You can enjoy the views on your walk without a care in the world by booking our luggage pick up bike. We’ll meet you off your train, give you a map (and a brolly if it’s raining) and whisk your bags back to the hotel on our trusty bike. Do you have a garden or terrace?
We have a terrace at the front of the hotel where you can have drinks or dine throughout the day. We also have The Museum Gardens right on our doorstep if you need a bit of greenery!
Do you have electric charging points in the car park?
Yes! But just a limited number so please let us know if you need one when booking your stay.
Can non-residents use The Bar, Restaurant and Spa?
Yes, we are more than just a hotel, we love to welcome our neighbours and visitors to the city for drinks, food or a bit of relaxation in The Spa. Call the team on 01904 644744 to book.
What is there to do around the hotel?
York is a city filled with so many things to see and do and we’re so lucky to be based in a city that has something for everyone! We have curated a list of the things we love to do here.
Do you have disabled car parking?
We have a private car park to the rear of the hotel that can be pre-booked for £25 a night. We can have ramps in place for you upon arrival.
Do you have accessible rooms?
Yes, we have rooms which vary in levels of accessibility. We would recommend calling reservations on 01904 644744 to discuss your requirements and we’ll do what we can to accommodate.
Do you have disabled access across the entirety of the hotel?
Yes our hotel, Restaurants and Spas are all fully accessible which includes a lift to all bedroom floors.
Is there parking available at the hotel?
Yes, we have a private car park at the rear of the hotel. This is charged at £25 per night Monday to Thursday and £30 per night Friday to Sunday and has limited space so we would recommend reserving a spot when you book. Alternative car parks within walking distance include Marygate Car Park or Bootham Row (unfortunately there is no free parking within walking distance of the hotel!).
Do you have electric charging points in the car park?
Not currently but we are looking at getting these installed.

Do you have a restaurant at the hotel?
Yes, Pearly Cow, the new concept restaurant that resides within No.1, York serves only the very best produce from the surrounding land and sea.
Are there plant-based/veggie options on the menu at Pearly Cow, York?
Yes, we cater for people with all dietary choices and restrictions just let your server know if there isn’t anything on the menu that quite suits your needs, and our chefs will whip something up!
Can I come and work from the hotel?
Yes, we have plenty of laptop friendly areas in the bar and the Marmalade lounge. It’s the perfect place to set up all day and enjoy a few coffees, lunch, free Wi-Fi and maybe even a cheeky drink after work!
Can I park my car in the car park whilst I dine at Pearly Cow, York?
We do have a small car park to the rear, but the spaces are often booked out by our residence. The good news is, there are plenty of car parks nearby like Marygate Car Park (YO30 7DT) and Bootham Row Car Park (YO30 7DU)

Breakfast:
Monday – Friday 07:00-10:00
Saturday – Sunday (including Bank Holidays) 08:00-10:30
Lunch: Saturday and Sunday only 12:00 -15:00
Sunday Lunch: 12:30-15:30
Dinner: 17:30-21:00
Afternoon Tea: 12:30 - 17:00
Can you cater for private functions/meetings/weddings?
Absolutely! Pearly Cow has a private dining room that can host up to 14 for a special event and is ideal for informal meeting. For larger numbers or if you’d like to book the Private Dining room please submit an enquiry here.
How many people can you cater for for a private event?
Our restaurant, Pearly Cow and it's private dining room combined can host approx. 50 for a sit down meal, we can also host more informal standing events for larger numbers up to 100.
How far is the hotel from York registry office?
It’s just up the road! A short 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
Do you have a license to host a wedding ceremony?
Sadly, we aren’t not set up to host wedding ceremonies but can absolutely host you for your reception drinks or dinner before or after.
Can I hire the entire hotel for a private event?
We're always open to hearing more about plans for larger events. Subject to availability and dependent on requirements, of course. Please make an enquiry here to get the ball rolling.
Do you need to pre-book a spa treatment?
We would always recommend pre-booking to avoid disappointment, but we sometimes have availability on the day, so please always ask.
Where is the spa? And what are the opening times?
Our Spa is located on the lower ground floor and we have a separate entrance at the rear of the hotel. Opening hours are Monday - Sunday from 10:30am until 6:30 pm
Do you do beauty treatments in the spa?
All of our treatments are mood-boosting massages and facials. We don’t offer any beauty therapies on site, but we can recommend the best salons to go to in York. Just ask!
Does the spa have a sauna/pool/steam room etc?
We don’t have a sauna, hot tub or swimming pool on site.
