Who is Margo Mc Daid?
Margo Mc Daid, also popularly known as Margo in Margate, is an Irish artist who studied applied art at Camberwell College of Arts. She spent time in Manhattan exploring the NY pop art scene and then relocated to England, becoming a community artist and art teacher. Then in 2010, Margo chose to settle down in the art-filled town of Margate. And since February 2014, Margo has become a full-time artist, painting every day in her studio in Kent and producing pieces in her distinctly vibrant and colourful style. Her works span various mediums, including wood, ceramic, paper and canvas. This is a practice she has maintained until this day.
The colours and vintage charm, a key part of Margo's art identity, are inspired by Margate’s youth culture. She has built a devoted following and community who adore her creative style and female portraiture. Margo’s solo-exhibition at Brighton’s Helm Gallery in January 2024 truly highlighted her popularity with her all her pieces sold out within 24 hours.
Margo has been a good friend of ours since our opening on the Kent coast in the summer of 2023. Eagle-eyed guests may have noticed her beautiful works in Pearly Cow Margate or in the bedrooms. We love her unique style and are often asked about her plates adorned on the walls by the open kitchen and wine cabinet.
Margo's Summer Residency
When deciding on our latest art project, it only seemed fitting to reach out to local artist Margo to work together. Now, No. 42 Margate is currently home to 12 beautiful artworks produced by Margo and you’ll find them from the ground floor leading all the way up to The Rooftop Bar. Enjoy a pop of colour as you head up to the Rooftop!

On the first floor you’ll find two Lookout Suites with floor-to-ceiling French windows, leading onto balconies and stretching out to sea. If you want to enjoy panoramic views but from the comfort of your bed, there’s our other very lovely sea view room category. Both have bespoke super-king beds so you can drift off to the sound of the waves in the comfiest of settings 🌊
